I find if you use converted rice (such as Uncle Ben's), you won't have such a problem with gummy rice. This is the recipe I use all the time, and it is truly "foolproof":
Foolproof Rice 1 c. converted rice 2 c. water 2 tsp. salt 1 T. butter, margarine, or vegetable oil
Cook on low for 6-8 hours. (My cooker cooks a bit faster--usually in about 4 hours.)

I have a good recipe that tends to work pretty well for rice in a slow cooker. It acts like a steamer this way:
1 cup rice (raw, brown or white should work, though I always use white) 1 cup water 1 tablespoon butter 2 teaspoons salt
Then you just put all of the ingredients in the slow cooker, cover it and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. Since I have a small family, I have never had need to double (or more) the recipe, so I can't say if this will work for larger quantities too. But you can give it a try!
I went and did a search too for other options, and some recipes actually call for you to double the water needed, or add an extra cup, depending on which you read. I really think it depends a lot on your cooker too. Some cook hotter than others, even on low. If my recipe doesn't work, add more water, or search for some other recipes until you find one that your slow cooker likes. lol

Hey, does anyone have a good slow-cooker rice recipe? When I tried doing rice in the slow-cooker, it turned into this really gelatinous, gross mush. I ended up feeding it to the dog. I used the amount of rice and water the package said to. What did I do wrong?
